"Into the Unknown" by Hermon Atkins MacNeil (1866-1947) Figure/female/winged/carver/mystery "A winged female figure is seated sidewise on a classical capital, sheltered in the sweeps of her wings, her face turned inward into the block as she holds a chisel against the marble with her left hand. Her left knee is raised and her right foot braced under the angle volute of the capital. A piece of drapery falls over her left shoulder and between her thighs." |
