Description |
"Dionysus" by Edward McCartan (1879-1947) Group/male/wine/ivy/panther/myth A partially nude male figure, Dionysus, is crowned with ivy. He is standing nonchalantly, one knee bent with hand on hips. Holding a thrysus over the head of a panther, which curls behind his legs. A piece of drapery falls over his left wrist and thigh. This group, originally designed in 1923, was enlarged and remodeled for Brookgreen in 1936. The classic harmony of this figure is enlivened by the rhythmic curves of composition with its finely curved balance of line. |
