One of a series of 33 sketches by Donald DeLue submitted to Brookgreen for consideration for use on the 1978-79 Brookgreen Gardens Medal: The Sculptor and His Work, bronze, Donald H. De Lue (1897-1988). There were 36 sketches originally; three have been sold over the years in Brookgreen fundraising auctions. Pencil on paper, framed. Large winged horse fills the field with kneeling sculptor at right continuing to work on his piece with hammer and chisel. Background includes a large sun radiating throughout, stars along edge of image, clouds below horse. |
