One of a series of 33 sketches by Donald DeLue submitted to Brookgreen for consideration for use on the 1978-79 Brookgreen Gardens Medal: The Sculptor and His Work, bronze, Donald H. De Lue (1897-1988). There were 36 sketches originally; three have been sold over the years in Brookgreen fundraising auctions. Pencil on paper, framed. Vertical format. Large female nude with long flowing hair reclining on an unfinished stone slab, facing forward, arms bent and raised around head. Behind her, a large centered sun radiates from behind the figure with rays extending in all directions. At lower center, the sculptor reclines on the ground, continuing to work on his piece with hammer and chisel. |
