One of a series of 33 sketches by Donald DeLue submitted to Brookgreen for consideration for use on the 1978-79 Brookgreen Gardens Medal: The Sculptor and His Work, bronze, Donald H. De Lue (1897-1988). There were 36 sketches originally; three have been sold over the years in Brookgreen fundraising auctions. Pencil on paper, framed. Vertical format. Large female nude, crouching with legs bent to the right, looking over right shoulder, with arms bent at elbows and hands curled, long hair with some wrapped into a bun on top of head. Figure is still attached to the unfinished stone behind her. At left, the sculptor continues to work on his piece with hammer and chisel. |
