One of a series of 33 sketches by Donald DeLue submitted to Brookgreen for consideration for use on the 1978-79 Brookgreen Gardens Medal: The Sculptor and His Work, bronze, Donald H. De Lue (1897-1988). There were 36 sketches originally; three have been sold over the years in Brookgreen fundraising auctions. Pencil on paper, framed. Vertical format. Large female nude with long flowing hair reclining in a moon-like orb set on a rectangular base, facing forward, arms bent and raised above head. Behind her, a large centered sun radiates from behind the figure with rays extending in all directions. Stars surround the scene. At lower center, the sculptor continues to work on his piece with hammer and chisel. |
