Aeronautical Chamber of Commerce Medal to Charles Lindbergh, 1929. 64x88.8mm. Bronze. John Gregory, Sc. Struck by the Robbins Co. XF/AU, with a rust colored spot on each side. Obverse: Lindbergh's Spirit of St. Louis and a portion of the globe showing the Atlantic Ocean below. Text: PER ASPERA AD ASTRA (Through Trials to Glory) at bottom. With the clouds at left, a cherubic face is shown blowing wind toward the plane. Reverse: Lindy's pilot's wings and a 7 line inscription below. Text: COMMEMORATING FIRST NON STOP/ NEW YORK TO PARIS FLIGHT/ BY/ COL. CHARLES A. LINDBERGH/ MAY 20-21 1927/ AERONAUTICAL CHAMBER/ OF COMMERCE OF AMERICA. On the second anniversary of his flight to Paris in May of 1927, the Aeronautical Chamber of Commerce of NYC presented Lindbergh with a gold example of this medal. |
