Description |
"Evening" by Paul Howard Manship (1885-1966) "A woman's form floats face downward above a bank of clouds, the body gently arched, the arms falling lightly over the bowed head. A twisted drapery drifts around her, and three owls fly above. The dreamy mood of twilight is infused into this poetically imagined figure. It was designed as one of the fountain groups, 'Moods of Time', for the New York World's Fair in 1938." ("Brookgreen Gardens Sculpture", Beatrice Gilman Proske, 1968, p. 291-292) |
