One of a series of 33 sketches by Donald DeLue submitted to Brookgreen for consideration for use on the 1978-79 Brookgreen Gardens Medal: The Sculptor and His Work, bronze, Donald H. De Lue (1897-1988). There were 36 sketches originally; three have been sold over the years in Brookgreen fundraising auctions. Pencil on paper, framed. Vertical format. Winged muse figure with winged horse in left hand and right arm embracing a crescent moon leans over sitting artist holding a lump of clay. Text: Brookgreen Gardens South Carolina at lower center. Pencil note lower left: Drawing No 1#, please reduce to 12" in diameter. |
