One of a series of 33 sketches by Donald De Lue submitted to Brookgreen for consideration for use on the 1978-79 Brookgreen Gardens Medal: The Sculptor and His Work, bronze, Donald H. De Lue (1897-1988). There were 36 sketches originally; three have been sold over the years in Brookgreen fundraising auctions. This 34th sketch was recently located hanging in Bob Jewell's office. Of the original 36 sketches, it appears that two were sold and this is the third one. Pencil on paper, framed. Artist at center with clay in hand. Winged female horizontal left to right, holding two leafy branches. Text around upper edge: Brookgreen Gardens, text around lower edge: South Carolina. |
