One of a series of 33 sketches by Donald DeLue submitted to Brookgreen for consideration for use on the 1978-79 Brookgreen Gardens Medal: The Sculptor and His Work, bronze, Donald H. De Lue (1897-1988). There were 36 sketches originally; three have been sold over the years in Brookgreen fundraising auctions. Pencil on paper, framed. Vertical format. Bearded sculptor with apron and collared shirt stands to right, considering his work. A kneeling female nude viewed from the side faces the sculptor in the center of the image. His hand reaches across to adjust her hair. Text curving along upper edge: Brookgreen Gardens. Text curving along lower edge: South Carolina. |
