One of a series of 33 sketches by Donald DeLue submitted to Brookgreen for consideration for use on the 1978-79 Brookgreen Gardens Medal: The Sculptor and His Work, bronze, Donald H. De Lue (1897-1988). There were 36 sketches originally; three have been sold over the years in Brookgreen fundraising auctions. Pencil on paper, framed. Vertical format. Bearded sculptor with apron and collared shirt and 3/4 female nude looking at viewer over her right shoulder share the center space. To the left, a small figure with torch rests on a stand. To the right, a winged horse flies. Sun peaks in from the upper right through a series of skylights. Text curved along the lower edge: Brookgreen Gardens South Carolina. |
