One of a series of 33 sketches by Donald DeLue submitted to Brookgreen for consideration for use on the 1978-79 Brookgreen Gardens Medal: The Sculptor and His Work, bronze, Donald H. De Lue (1897-1988). There were 36 sketches originally; three have been sold over the years in Brookgreen fundraising auctions. Pencil on paper, framed. Vertical format. Large winged, draped female muse figure reclining to the right, looking left with laurel wreath in right hand, still attached to unfinished stone behind her.. Sun in background, star or compass figure at far left. Lower center, the sculptor continues with chisel and hammer to work on his piece. |
