One of a series of 33 sketches by Donald DeLue submitted to Brookgreen for consideration for use on the 1978-79 Brookgreen Gardens Medal: The Sculptor and His Work, bronze, Donald H. De Lue (1897-1988). There were 36 sketches originally; three have been sold over the years in Brookgreen fundraising auctions. Pencil on paper, framed. Vertical format. Large male nude with bent right leg, pressing up into a sunlike-orb, looking to the right, still attached to the unfinished stone behind him. Two horses run to right. Lower right, the sculptor continues with chisel and hammer to work on his piece. Note at lower left: Drawing No 2#/ Please reduce to 11 1/2 in diameter. |
