One of a series of 33 sketches by Donald DeLue submitted to Brookgreen for consideration for use on the 1978-79 Brookgreen Gardens Medal: The Sculptor and His Work, bronze, Donald H. De Lue (1897-1988). There were 36 sketches originally; three have been sold over the years in Brookgreen fundraising auctions. Pencil on paper, framed. Vertical format. Large male nude reclining to the left into a sunlike-orb, reaching and looking to the right, still attached to the unfinished stone behind him. Three horses run to right above his arm. Stars and lights along the right edge. Lower left, the sculptor continues with chisel and hammer to work on his piece. |
