One of a series of 33 sketches by Donald DeLue submitted to Brookgreen for consideration for use on the 1978-79 Brookgreen Gardens Medal: The Sculptor and His Work, bronze, Donald H. De Lue (1897-1988). There were 36 sketches originally; three have been sold over the years in Brookgreen fundraising auctions. Pencil on paper, framed. Vertical format. Large male nude at center, balancing on left foot, bent at waist to left with arms bent and right leg bent upward, still attached to unfinished stone behind him. At right, sculptor continues with hammer and chisel to work on his piece. Background shows sun rays extending from lower to upper, stars and orbs placed throughout. Comet with tail moving in a curce from right to left. |
