One of a series of 33 sketches by Donald DeLue submitted to Brookgreen for consideration for use on the 1978-79 Brookgreen Gardens Medal: The Sculptor and His Work, bronze, Donald H. De Lue (1897-1988). There were 36 sketches originally; three have been sold over the years in Brookgreen fundraising auctions. Pencil on paper, framed. Vertical format. Large male nude reclining to the left into a sunlike-orb, looking to the right, still attached to the unfinished stone below him. Two horses run to right. A comet(?) with a trailing tail crosses over the male's right leg. Lower right, the sculptor continues with chisel and hammer to work on his piece. |
