One of a series of 33 sketches by Donald DeLue submitted to Brookgreen for consideration for use on the 1978-79 Brookgreen Gardens Medal: The Sculptor and His Work, bronze, Donald H. De Lue (1897-1988). There were 36 sketches originally; three have been sold over the years in Brookgreen fundraising auctions. Pencil on paper, framed. Vertical format. Large male nude stretching upward, left leg bent, right leg extended attached to an unfinished stone. Behind him, a large centered sun radiates from behind the figure with rays extending in all directions. At lower right, the sculptor continues to work on his piece with hammer and chisel. |
